Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a liquid used to stop cavities from developing. The antimicrobial properties of SDF, silver and fluoride have been effective in stopping the progression of dental decay. When the liquid is applied to the tooth (using a small brush or floss), it turns the area of the cavity into a dark black colour. SDF is usually applied to the top surface of teeth. SDF can be offered as an alternative option for some young children who may have difficulty with traditional restorative procedures. However, our pediatric dentist will determine the treatment options for a patient based on case selection.
